you can call a company taht pumps them and have it inspected if you want, it usually runs about $75.00-$100.00 for a certified inspection. You can open the top and look for yourself. You are looking for paper and solids floating on the top or a bad strong smell. this will not tell you how much muck build up you have on the bottom. but if the home is only 6 yrs old, you should not have much.
Add rid-x to the tank according to directions or add yeast. buy yeast in bulk, not small packets and add 1 Tablespoon per month to help keep the bacteria levels high and your septic working properly.
Most often it is recommended to have them inspected and/or pumped every 8-10 yrs. Sooner if your drains are slow, sluggish or you notice a bad sewer oder in your pipes

Most people do about every ten years.

If you are worried then have it done. Better to be safe then sorry.

you open it up and see, or actually start low and start knocking on it moving you hand straight up towards the top and if it sounds kinda solid then thats when there’s shit at. If it’s sounding halo then there’s nothing there.

when you bought the house the realtor and owner, have to give you a written statement when it was cleaned last, also the home inspector is supposed to check the tank to see if it needs cleaning,if he did not check it,call the company that inspected it you have up to 1 year and they have to check it,it should be cleaned every 3 years depending on the number of people living there 2 people every 3 years, 4 to five people every 2 years.

find the lid to the septic tank, open it up. There should be a hole that takes the liquid and empties it into a field. That field has gravel and stone and the grass is usually really green over the spot. If you can not see the drain pipe that goes out into the yard, you have a back up problem, and should call someone to terralift your field. When I moved into my home, I had it emptied for 125 dollars, just so I knew what I was dealing with.
