Dig up the cap and have it pumped out. The guy will know how much he sucked out. At the same time flush toilet paper down and watch it shoot into the tank to make sure there is no restrictions.

Contact your county health department. They are the ones that issue permits for installation of septic systems and should have a record of yours, who installed it, when, how large it is and where it is on the property. You may even be able to get a copy of the lot layout showing the location. That can sometimes be a big help.

Your local EPA will have the records on the septic tank installation and inspection.
Even if it was installed 40 years ago, there will be a record you can find.
If not your state EPA office, they should be able to tell you what you need to do.

In my state, a one thousand gallon tank is required for a three bedroom house. Number of bathrooms never mattered here when figuring the size of tank needed.
For over 35 years, the state EPA office here, has permitted and inspected septic tank installations. Chances are, Florida is the same.

Why get messy, and make a mess when you can just make a few phone calls, and stop by some government office and pick up a printout?

Anyway, may I ask why you are concerned about the size of your tank? Have you been having problems with it?

you are going to have to measure it
find how deep it is with a pole then get a rough measurement for length and width this will give you how many cubic feet then one cubic foot is roughly 7.5 gallons
