What to Do About Septic Tank Treatment
Septic tanks are essential to holding waste water from the sink, shower, and toilet in an underground compartment. The septic tank is the main reason that the plumbing works so efficiently in many homes all across the world. Unfortunately, many homeowners have horrible problems with their septic tanks which may lead to plumbing problems all throughout the house. Septic problems are often extremely expensive to repair, which is why it’s essential to properly maintain the septic system in order to keep it working and running effectively.
One of the most common problems that many people face is standing water in the drains. The water may seem like it is not going anywhere and just sitting there. This can prove to be extremely unsanitary and downright annoying when trying to use the toilet, shower, or sink. There may be several causes for this problem. There is more than likely a large blockage in the drain. If you’ve been flushing odd objects and items down the drain, this may be the problem. Cat litter, leaves, tampons, and large paper towels should not be flushed down the toilet or drain. Flushing these things down the drain may be convenient at first, but if it is done on a regular basis it may actually cause a problem. There are chemicals available that breakdown most materials and substances in the drain, however, sometimes a plumbing snake is required to fish out the items.
There are several other problems that may occur. One other problem may be that the septic pipe itself is frozen. This may happen if you live in higher altitudes with temperatures that are below 30F. And if you’re wondering what to do about septic tank treatment, this may be something that needs the help of a plumber. By properly insulating the pipes, you will be able to flush things down the toilet and sink without it freezing on you. This frozen accumulation can be made worse if there is already a clog in the system when the temperatures begin to drop.
Another problem that may be the cause of the trouble is that the septic tank itself has collapsed. This is sometimes an unfortunate ending to many homeowners plumbing problems. Septic tank removal and repair is extremely expensive. The collapse will often happen if the septic tank is very old or if it was not structured properly. You can tell if it has collapsed by a sinking in the ground where the tank is. If you are having major plumbing problems that are more than just a simple, small clog in the toilet, you may want to call a professional plumber or knowledgeable friend to look at the trouble.

What Are Sure Signs of Leach Line Failure in a Septic System?
I think my leach lines are failing but I am not sure. Toilets have backup in both bathrooms and it seems that there is some ground pooling just downhill from where the septic tank is buried and we have been dying for rain here in Southern California.
The septic was pumped in May of 2004 to get a septic cert. while we were in escrow to purchase the property. It’s a 750 gallon tank and it was my understanding that they should be pumped every 5 years. Should the pumping of the septic be more often such as every other year?
The pumper is coming out today 9/11/ 07. I will post the findings here once they have accessed the problem. Thank you everyone for your input. All the answers are very good.

How Can You Tell Whose Septic Tank Is Stinking Up the Neighborhood?
Someone in our neighborhood has a septic issue. Last night I opened the door to see what the weather was like, and the air smelled so disgusting that I had to shut it super fast. The smell lingered in our house for like 5 minutes! Is there a way to tell whose tank stanks?
If it’s not a septic tank, it’s a dead sunk covered in poo. It’s not noticable all the time- usually early in the morning or late at night. I know it’s not ours- our grass sucks.

In Building a Concrete Septic Tank Why Do You Need Seperate Concrete Pours?
I have read that in building a concrete septic tank, you generally want to pour the base slab first and then within a couple of days pour the remaining walls. Is this the best way when doing one yourself with concrete? Wouldn’t it be better to do it all in one pour, assuming you had a sturdy enough form to resist the pressure of the concrete?
